$100 Bathroom Challenge: My color plan

May 19, 2010 by Erin Heaton

This bathroom is on the second level of our house and has two windows facing east, so it gets plenty of sunlight. I want to transform the existing dirty orange/blue contrast into something bright, airy and fresh.

The bead board, ceramic tile and all the fixtures are staying, and so are their colors.

I’m removing all the blue and adding a couple of colors, one to ground the space and one as an accent.

Approximation

In my eyes, the logical choice for a vanity color is a deep espresso brown. This will make it look a little more modern and will camoflage the ho-hum details a bit.

This is the fabric I plan on using for some simple curtains. The pattern brings together the shades of white, beige/almond and dark brown and adds a pop of dark red that can hold its own against the terra cotta.

I didn’t feel like I could add another color to the mix, so I am painting the few small sections of plaster wall an almond shade, approximately the same color as the toilet and shower.
So that’s my plan! Now I just have to get busy.

Follow along with me as I give our upstairs bathroom a facelift with a budget of only $100.
