$100 Bathroom Challenge: Painting the vanity

It was time to tackle the blue elephant in the room — the vanity. I chose a color called Dark Granite by Olympic. I wanted a dark brown, but didn’t want a chocolate brown because I was afraid it wouldn’t look right with the floor.

Before

I’m not sure what the previous owners of this house were going for, as I don’t ever remember blue and terra cotta being a popular color combo. Maybe it was a nod to nautical? Or maybe it was a boy’s room? Whatever it was, it was about to come to an end.

I think the dark brown minimizes the dated details. The vanity is no longer the focal point of the room! The color I chose has a milkiness to it that I didn’t expect, but I love it.

I kept the existing brushed nickel hardware because it was pretty basic and inoffensive. I didn’t see the need to buy new knobs just to have something different. Hardware is expensive!

Now that the painting of the walls and vanity is finished, I could stop right now and the bathroom would still look ten times better than it did before. But I will forge on! There is accessorizing to do!
