$100 Bathroom Challenge: Painting the walls

May 24, 2010 by Erin Heaton

Believe me, I take no pleasure in painting beige, but as I explained in my color plan, I could not add another color to the mix without things looking out of control.

Before

There were just a few little strips of plastered wall to paint…

Before

with the largest one being in front of the vanity. Yep, that’s all that needed to be painted. I chose a shade to match the existing toilet and shower, appropriately enough named Toasted Almond by Olympic.

Pay no attention to the awesome blue carpet. Its days are numbered.

I thought it would take an hour or two at most, but I didn’t consider the fact that it was almost all edging. So it took a bit longer.

After I got two coats on the wall, I decided it was a bit too tan for my liking, but this being a budget room, I didn’t really want to go buy another quart of paint. So I mixed some of the Toasted Almond with some warm white semi-gloss paint I already had in approximately equal parts and gave it a third coat. I think it lightened up just enough.

……………………………………………………………..
How I spent my $100 budget (so far)

1 qt. Semi-gloss wall paint … $11.42
——————-
Total spent … $11.42
Amount left … $88.58
……………………………………………………………..

Follow along with me as I give our upstairs bathroom a face lift with a budget of only $100.
