Even more antique mall finds

August 3, 2011 by Erin Heaton

It’s been so hot here, we’ve been avoiding nearly all outdoor activities. So… I went to the antique malls again. This time I went with my friend Katie, who loves old things and thrifting and making things too. Here’s what I found:

Small iron ship book end ($2.80). This is pretty small (about four inches wide), but I couldn’t pass it up. So heavy and yet so cheap.

Brass griffin shield ornamental plate ($8). I don’t really know what this was for originally or where I’m going to use it, but I am so drawn to this sort of thing lately. Brass and shields and flourishes. I actually passed it up a few weeks ago, but couldn’t stop thinking about it. And then when I went back, I couldn’t find it. Sad. I thought someone else got it, but this time, I found it again!

Molded plastic “cafe” wall art from 1970 ($8). This one’s kind of cuckoo, I know. But I’ve never seen anything like it before and the colors go perfectly in our living/dining rooms. I just have to find a permanent spot for it; it’s kind of big at 18 inches wide.

After the antique malls, we went to a cheapie thrift store. It was half price day. Surprise! I found two things that need ugly craft makeovers.

Another house-shaped shadowbox ($1.46). It needs a lot of love, but check out the scalloped edge!

A tiny play sewing machine ($2.93). So country crafts, but I think I can save it.
