Waking up from winter

March 16, 2010 by Erin Heaton

Reason #1 our house no longer looks semi-neglected: Mulch

I should have taken a picture before I ripped out all the dead plants. So so yucky. I cut back some perennials I’m not sure should have been cut back (oops), but we will see if they sprout.
Before
After

A mulch miracle! Now let’s hope the weeds don’t show up.

Look at the day lillies coming back to life! Spring is coming!

Our daffodils started coming up in early February. These guys were poking up their heads while there was still snow on the ground, defying what I know about nature and spring and whatnot.
Then I realized they are right under the exhaust vent for our furnace. No wonder they showed up early; they’ve had their own personal warm and steamy sauna all winter!
