Another bathroom update: Before

May 5, 2010 by Erin Heaton

I guess I can’t go more than a month or two without wanting to re-do a bathroom around here. But this update will be very different than our other bathroom renovation. For our upstairs bathroom, I’m giving myself a budget of $100 and will be using a lot of what we already have.

I’m leaving the beadboard and the floor the way they are. The beadboard is painted a glossy white and covers about 80 percent of the walls.

The floors are a dark terra cotta colored ceramic tile. Not really what I would have chosen, but they are neutral enough to stay.

The blue painted vanity brings out the orange in the floor, so maybe the tiles will tone down a little once I change the color.

This room has a mixture of metal finishes going on: chrome and brushed nickel (along with the brass of the shower), but I’m going to overlook that in the interest of saving money. The fixtures themselves aren’t that bad.

So say goodbye to the blue! It won’t be here for much longer. Let the $100 challenge begin!
