Setting creative goals for 2014

January 8, 2014 by Erin Heaton

My new year’s resolution: To start saying “twenty-fourteen” instead of “two-thousand-fourteen.”

Yep, that’s it. To me “resolutions” are sort of silly. They never seem to have a lot of weight behind them, which is why I much prefer to set goals. Semantics, maybe, but whatever gets the job done, right?

So here are my creative goals for twenty-fourteen.

Blog more, but shorter

In the interest of staying more connected here, I think I’m finally going to try shorter more frequent posts. (Not that I won’t write long when writing long is necessary.) I’m not going to over-promise and put a number out there, but at the very least, I’m aiming to resume posting once a week.

Renovate our upstairs bathroom

It’s pretty much gutted at this point, so we’re starting from scratch. The plumbing was repaired in December, and the damaged walls also need to be repaired/replaced. Need to start shopping for tile and fixtures. Fun stuff! Stay tuned! Psst.. I started a Bathroom Reno Pinterest board if you want to see the direction I’m headed.

List 100 items in my Etsy shop

I think this is doable over the course of the year. Fewer than two listings per week. One hundred items is a semi-arbitrary goal, but supposedly once you reach 100 listings, you get more views and start to see more sales. I’ve read this in a number of places, so let’s find out if it’s true.

Invest in an archival printer

I’d love to start selling prints in my shop. I am recovering from a bit of sticker shock, but printing on demand seems to be the right choice for me at this point. Christmas money has been earmarked.

Participate in another craft show

I had a great experience doing the Rock n Roll Craft Show here in St. Louis last fall and will be applying again. I’d love to do more shows, but I’m trying not to over-extend myself. So the goal is one. And I will be starting to prep in the summer.
